ZIP LINING IN BELIZE

Picture
Zip lining is as close as you can get to flying over the jungle. As you soar from tree to tree- like Tarzan, experience a bird’s-eye view of the Belize jungle, and scenery that cannot be seen from the ground. Some lines are longer than others but all offer the same AMAZING adventure- cross over the lush rainforest and river and experience the thrill of the jungle.

Feel at one with nature on the exciting Belize Zip Line Canopy Tour Adventure.  This tour is by far one of the best methods to view it all at a canopy level.  The drive will take you to the Western Highway for approximately 50 minutes, where you will reach the limestone hills of Belize.  Once at the Zip Line location, the guides will help you with your gear, your harness, helmet and hand gear in preparation for your aerial adventure.  A short 5 minute walk in this amazing natural rainforest will bring you to the start of the adventure, as you soar through the rainforest canopy treetops at a birds eye level.

The zip line adventure consist of (8) zip line platforms, each strategically located within the rainforest canopy.  Double cables (each capable withstanding), 2,000 pounds of weight.  The requirement for this tour truly has nothing to do with the weight of the person, but more with the size of the safety equipment used to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.  All landing platforms are equipped with safety gear, handrails and guides to meet you at the next landing as well as to ensure your personal safety throughout the tour.  The platforms are as high as 85 feet, into the canopy and as far apart as 250 feet.  So get ready for this fantastic ride and ensure to reserve early, as spaces are limited.
The Aerial Trek Zipline is an above canopy experience where the adventurer gets a true bird's eye view of the pristine jungle while feeling the exhilaration of zipping along on a Double set of cables for added safety, from treetop to treetop.

Upon embarking on this trilling excursion, our guests are outfitted in "seated cable gear" with helmets, and while accompanied by their guide, proceed to walk a gradual flight of steps up a hillside leading to the first of 7 platforms.  There, he will instruct visitors on how to traverse from platform to platform while also describing the many safety features we have implemented in order to assure your peace of mind and maximum enjoyment of this fabulous heart pounding trip.

Your first run is the shortest distance, much like a "test run", and if you determine this is not your "cup of tea" and don't want to continue, we have provided a set of steps leading down to the ground to cancel the trip.

After zooming through the separate five "runs" varying in length at an 80 foot height, you will end its memorable experience with a grand finale by rappelling down to the ground for a final adrenaline rush.

Any type of sports clothing and most shoes are acceptable.  No flip flops or shoes that will drop off while in the air.  Bring a camera.  Bug spray is a must during the rainy season.  Approximate time for this excursion is 1 hour and 15 minute, to 1 and 1-1/2 hours.
Your zip line adventure begins with a brief walk through the rainforest, where you come to a base camp set up.  Here you will be outfitted with a harness, gloves, and helmet.  The zip line tour features an intricate harness system of pulleys on horizontal traverse cables which let you glide 100-250 feet between platforms up to 85 feet high in the trees at canopy level.  After being fitted into the safety harness, you'll climb a set of stairs to arrive at your first platform.  The next 60-90 minutes are spent zipping through a series of (7) zip line runs from 8 jungle platforms, a truly unforgettable experience!
To begin your zip lining adventure, you will be securely fastened to a harness that is attached to a cable by expert guides & platform directors. With the push-off from each platform, which is situation up in a tree, the lines lead from one platform to another. If you’re not comfortable with heights, don’t look down! The guide will instruct you on how and where to old your hands, how to speed up and how to slow down.  When you're ready, you push off from the first platform (a trial run) to zip line to the next platform.

After you are comfortable with doing the first run, you will proceed to the next platform, and continue until you have completed the remaining (7) platforms.  Each platform is between 100-250 feet apart, approximately 85 feet high in the canopy treetops.  Throughout the entire experience, you are fastened to a series of clamps and cables.  At no time are you left standing on ledges or platforms, without being safely anchored and secured to a safety cable.

Why should we consider going Zip Lining on our Belize vacation?
You don't have to be in peak physical condition to enjoy this experience.  Zip lining will be one of the most exhilarating (safe) things you have ever done.  Zip lining offers you a panoramic view of the rainforest canopy, at a bird's eye level.  You will get to experience and see things, you wouldn't normally get to see at ground level.  Zip lining is definitely a "bucket-list" activity, worthy of consideration.

When is the best time to go?
Zip lining can be done all year long.  The rainy season from June to November might take zip lining off your agenda for the day, but with Belize it rarely rains several days straight.  So if you can't go one day, you can usually book this on an alternate day.

What is the best way to experience cave tubing?
To me, zip lining is best experienced with friends.  It's exciting to see and experience the sensation of flying through the air (along jungle treetops), listening to each other squeal and scream.  If you don't want to deal with the headache of renting a car, and trying to navigate to the site yourself, book a tour through an experienced local licensed tour operator.  They'll pick you up, take you to the site, feed you lunch, drinks, snacks and see that you get back to your hotel room.
Where is Zip Lining located?
The site is located on an unnamed road off the Hummingbird Highway.  It is about 30 minutes away from Belmopan City and one hour from San Ignacio, Cayo.

What is the best way to get to Zip Lining?
Getting there is relatively easy.  If you have a personal vehicle or a rental, you can easily drive to the site.  You can also travel there by public bus - just be on the lookout for the sign to get off the bus.  However, if you have booked this tour with a licensed tour operator, your guide will be picking you up and dropping you off.  Although if you're driving (from Belmopan), travel George Price Highway an hour to Mile 37. Drive 6 miles to the reserve entrance.

Zip lining is an exhilarating experience with spectacular views and a perspective you won’t get anywhere else in Belize.  It lets you soar through the subtropical jungle of Belize, on some of the longest aerial runs found in the country, giving you an exciting opportunity to gain a bird’s eye view of the rainforest.

As you zip line across the jungle treetops, you will get to see the rainforest's dense forest canopy, which supports a rich flora of epiphytes, including orchids, bromeliads, mosses and lichens. These plants attach to trunks and branches and obtain water and minerals from rain and debris that collects on the supporting plants. The rainforest canopy is home to many exotic birds and spider monkeys.

Zip lining is often combined with cave tubing, since they are both half day adventures and located right next to each other.

(4) Reasons Why Zip Lining Should Be on Your Bucket List
  1. Break Out of Your Shell - If you’re someone who’s a little more subdued by nature, this is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and broaden your horizons. It’s the perfect example of an exhilarating activity that’s completely safe.
  2. A Chance to Bond - There’s nothing like a shared adrenaline experience to bring people together. You see it happen all the time where people encounter a brush with danger or are required to work together to overcome a challenge. Of course, zip lining is one of the safest outdoor activities available, but you still get the rush of cruising up to 100 km/h on ziplines up to 300 feet off the ground.
  3. Minimal Fitness Required - People often like the idea of getting out to the outdoors, but aren’t so keen on the sweat, blisters and achy muscles that come with it. The thing about zip lining, is that many courses are set up to make it accessible to everyone.
  4. The Feeling of Flight - Humans have been obsessed with flight since the beginning of time. From Orville and Wilbur Wright piloting the first powered airplane to modern day base jumpers in those bizarre squirrel suits, there’s something in our DNA that makes us want to experience the sensation of flight.  And seeing as we haven’t figured out a way to grow feathers yet, a trip through an aerial park on a zipline is a terrific way to get that fix.
