There is a long history of this family and the land upon which they live and work. Around 100 years ago a man named Mr. Glavez came from Lebanon and acquired this property and it was known as San Lorenzo Farm. Fast-forward three generations and now you have Rudy Juan and his family who continue to live and work this farm. Rudy and his wife Margaret Mary have seven grown children. During the 1980s they started hosting groups of students, members of the Peace Corps, visiting doctors, and archeologists. They built the original "stone cottage" with thatch and continued to add units to be able to accommodate groups.
Nabitunich is located along the Western Highway in the Cayo District of Belize at mile 71, just six miles west of San Ignacio. It is less than 1 mile east of San Jose Succotz Village and the Xunantunich ferry. By car, it takes about 1 ? hours to drive from the Belize airport to Nabitunich. Driving west out of San Ignacio, you are getting close when you pass the road to Chaa Creek and duPlooy's and then the road to the Garden Center. The road is to the right directly across from the road to the Garden Center. There are two roads, take the one to the right. Go about 1/2 mile (past the green house on the left) and you will see a large house on the right. Go through the small gate to the left of the house and you will come to a large grassy area. The lodge and cottages are to the right.
Bus routes from Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, and the Guatemala border offer frequent service throughout the day; all buses going east and west along the Western Highway go right past Nabitunich and so you can stop here, just tell them to stop at "Rudy Juan's place" or "The Stone Cottages."
