You can't rent a car on Ambergris Caye, so you may want to consider renting a golf cart. 

It's one of the best ways to get around on the island, and see all the things you want to see.

If you like to do your own driving, rent a golf cart for getting around on Ambergris Caye.  Carts used to be all electric, but now most companies have converted to gas-powered carts.  Golf cart rentals, can rent for about as much as a car rental, but if you're staying south of town and have multiple passengers (for example a family), it's probably worth it.   It's the best way of getting around the island, short of a taxi.

When driving your cart, carry a valid driver's license and follow all normal traffic laws, including one-way street rules!  Be sure to pay attention to the map you are given. 

Front Street closes to all but pedestrian traffic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Also, Front Street has some odd parking rules.  Make sure you park on the correct side of the street (as this alternates every few weeks; just do what the locals are doing).  Each month from the 1st to 15th (park on the rights side of the street), from the 16th to end of month (park on the left side of the street).
