2 parts Tequila (good tequila is always better) 1/2 part Grand Mariner (orange liqueur) 1/2 part fresh lime juice 1/2 part fresh lemon juice 1/2 part Limoncello (lemon liqueur) Garnish rim of glass with coarse salt
Mix with a bunch of ice cubes in a shaker and shake violently for about 15 seconds (until ice starts to crystallize on the outside of your metal shaker). Pour contents into an old-fashioned glass and, for a nice visual appeal, you can finish with a drop of grenadine (let it sink to the bottom for a sweet finish). Add a couple of skinny straws and a slice of lime if you like. Trust me!
Hint: too strong for your taste? Stir in some lemon-lime soda— don't shake!
THE BEST MARGARITAS Version #2
1 part Tequila (good tequila is always best) 1 part Jarabe (sugar water) 1 part Controy (Cointreau)* 1 part lime juice
Shake the four ingredients and pour into your salted glass over ice. And enjoy!
*Note: I use Controy as it is available in Mexico and is very reasonably priced. It may not be possible to find it in the U.S. or Canada. You can use Triple Sec or Cointreau if you need to, but they are significantly more expensive.
And one last note, since limes vary in sweetness/sourness, don't be afraid to add more sugar syrup if the drink is too sour.
BELIZE MANGO MARGARITAS
1 (10 ounce) bag frozen diced mango (or 2-3 sliced frozen mango's)1/4 c. fresh lime juice 2/3 c. tequila (preferably silver, 80 proof) 2 Tbsp. Cointreau or other orange liqueur 2 Tbsp. superfine sugar 2 c. ice water
Directions Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Garnish with a slice of Mango. (Note: Do not use fresh mangos in this drink. It is best when the mango's are fresh and have been sliced and frozen ahead of time.)
BLUE HOLE MARGARITA
1 (10 ounces) can frozen margarita mix 3/4 c. tequila (preferably silver, 80 proof) 1/4 c. blue curacao liqueur 2 Tbsp. lime juice
Preparation Combine all ingredients in a blender. Fill with ice to 5-cup level, and process until smooth. Serve. Makes 5 cups. Garnish with salt along the rim of the glass, and pour a small amount of Blue Curacao Liqueur into the middle of the drink to create the Belize Blue Hole effect.
